Linal-an Cave

Linal-an cave is one of the treasures of Linal-an watershed and Brgy. Can-abong in Borongan City.

It is about 3 km away from the barangay.

Cool waters flow out of it.

Group 3 members enjoyed the view inside the cave inspite of the darkness.

We dared not go deeper...

We were not prepared: no flashlights except Boni's celfon.

Bats were inside the inner room of the cave.

Golden discovery

Wow, we have found gold in Linal-an!

Guess, who discovered it first?

There's plenty! If we could only bring them...

But, as environmentalists we are to "...bring nothing except memories and leave nothing except footprints..."

On top of Bag-utan

The big rocks of Bag-utan in Brgy. Can-abong, Borongan City...

Wooden Bridge @ Bag-utan

"Bag-utan" means a place where drifted woods, timbers, big rocks and other materials from the forests are trapped and confined. For example, a big tree that naturally fell and was carried by the strong current downstream current was suspended in between two big rocks. It now serves as a natural bridge in Bag-utan of Can-abong.

Ulot River @ Can-avid, E. Samar

Ulot river is one of the famous river in E. Samar - it used to be the highway of the past when there was no road yet connecting Eastern from Western Samar.

People travel by boat upstream to go to the west and downstream to go to the eastern side of Samar island.

"ULot" refers to the process of navigating the boat against the upstream current using a piece of strong bamboo poles pushing down along the river bottom sand and rocks.

Dam @ Brgy. Malogo

The dam at Brgy. Malogo of Can-avid used to be a ricefield area that is overflowed by 3 small rivers and stream.

It was converted into a dam to supply irrigation to the ricefields in the barangay.

However, work in the irrigation canals were not completed and only areas near the dam benefit from its services.

There is a need to continue making distribution canals to supply other ricefields in the barangay according to the Brgy. Chairperson.

The Twin Falls of Bulosao

Amandaraga Falls and Amanjuray Falls are some of the ecodestination site of the municipality of Lawaan in E. Samar.

Amandaraga falls can be reached by walking for at least 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Group 1 @ Bulosao

Grp. 1 chose Bulosao watershed as their study area.

Walking at first in the hot and dry rough road from the barangay until we reached the first river...

After crossing the first river, the road became smaller until it was just a trail. The footpath became smaller, slippery and wet as we moved higher, then up and down the mountains.

We first saw Amajuray Falls and we kept walking until we reached Amandaraga Falls, the first level of the ecotour area.

Art from waste

Driftwoods and stones from Linal-an watershed are not to be disregarded and thrown away like waste...

If collected and assembled by an artist, it becomes an art work that brings delight to the viewers and visitors @ Linao.

Grp. 3 @ Linao

With the Group 3 members of BSEM-4 students in NRM 411 (Watershed Mgt.) we visited Can-abong and discovered the beauty of Linao...

Linao Sing-along

Linal-an's waste products made up the Linao Sing-along.

The videoke bar and restaurant was constructed from driftwoods and locally available materials.

These were collected over time and later combined by the owner-designer into an interesting piece of architectural work...

Linao @ Can-abong

Linao is a part of the Can-obing River which is located in Brgy. Can-abong in Borongan City, Eastern Samar.

It is one of the popular river site in Borongan for swimming, gatherings and parties during weekends and holidays.

Its cool, crystal clear water... quietly swimming fishes... this is life at peace with nature!
